I’m extremely pleased to announce that Bay Area Graffiti has been released! Those who pre-ordered should get it within a couple days. Many stores already have it on the shelves. Thank you for ordering it and/or checking it out!
Please join us for an official book release and art show event at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco from 5-9 p.m., Friday, February 6th. Many featured writers in the book will have art on display and a limited number of books will be available for purchase at a discounted price.

Graffiti Archaeology in Archaeology Magazine!

The July/August 2007 issue of Archaeology Magazine features a four-page article about Graffiti Archaeology. It’s by far the most in-depth article anyone has ever written about the project, with tons of images, and interviews with real archaeologists to get their take on it. I could not possibly be more proud. This issue should hit the stands sometime in June.

Sincere apologies to the under 21 crowd. We’re so pleased to be able to have this release event at 111 Minna–awesome location and they were kind enough to make the space available on short notice. The age limit is unfortunately just the way it is there.
We’ll try to get good photos from the event and post them.

i flipped out when i saw this at moes books, i sat there and went through for as long as i could, it’s seriously one of the best graffiti books out. and even though i can’t afford it now, the stuff the writers have to say and the quality of steve’s photos makes it sincerely worth it.

hey man i dont mean to be a dick but i think you guys need to throw this book out and make a new one. me and my homies thought that shit shit would be about real bay graff but you guys got reyes on the cover. wheres the Dream TDK shit at man and how come i only saw 2 pics for King Tie some of the sickest Bay Writers were replaced by people who arent even from the BAY.
tie and dream didn’t exactly get up very much in the last five years.

this book never claimed to sum up bay graffiti as you saw it or ‘as it should be’ whatever.. tie and dream were some of the more important influences on the bay area scene yes.. but unfortunatly they don’t really have much left that is running.. was phunk supposed to go back in time or magically lift the buff from walls? come on now..
this book shows quality graffiti that phunk saw and took photos of in the last five years. thats it. you don’t have to like it, but be realistic
last time i checked this book isn’t called "graffiti by people who are native to the bay area"
or "graffiti done by soakratesking6 freinds and heros alike"
this shit is funny. i like the idea of gathering all the books and throwing them out. that shouldn’t be too hard, right?
i mean really, if soakratesking6 isn’t happy, then how can anyone else be happy?? who cares if the book actually shows what the walls looked like. the walls shoulda been covered with dream and tie originals. and for that matter, any other writer that died way before phunk started taking photos. can i get a shout for sope one?? he always gets left out. rip billy bronze.
books are made to provoke thoughts, spark ideas, create debate.

how many other books are out about bay area graff with this quality none that i know of im sure if you got a bunch of dope flicks of dream orr ties work or any old school decent writers with stories by the people who were down with them and lived thru those times you could make a neat book so some unappriciative asshat can complain about it on your flickr page good luck
